In Microsoft 365, Helpdesk administrators (or Password administrators) often encounter frequent requests to reset passwords for newly onboarded users or individuals who have forgotten their passwords. Admins have the option to utilize either the Office 365 admin center or the Azure AD portal for password resets. However, the task can become challenging when it needs to be performed frequently or for a large number of users in bulk.
Specmasoft’s Office 365 Manager tool simplifies the process of resetting passwords for multiple users in bulk. You have the flexibility to either assign a random password to each user or specify a custom password for individual users. This tool allows you to select the necessary users from a report grid or import users from a CSV file to streamline the password reset procedure.
Steps to Reset Random Password for Bulk Office 365 Users
To reset auto-generated random passwords for multiple Microsoft 365 users using the Office 365 Manager app, please follow these steps:
- Open the UI console of the Office 365 Manager app.
- Navigate to the Azure AD page, which is the default page when you open the application.
- Inside the Office 365 Users tab, in the report picker, select the report that matches your needs, such as Recently created users, Password expired users, or any other user report that includes the users for whom you wish to modify passwords.
- Select the required users from the report grid. If you plan to select users from a CSV file, you can skip this step.
- In the Update Users section, click on the Password button to open the Reset Password action UI.
- If you haven’t selected any users from the report grid, the application will prompt you to pick users using one of two options: Search and Select Users or Import Users From CSV.
- Within the action user interface, choose the Auto-generate password (aka Random password) as the new password option, and ensure you select the choice to Force the user to change the password on their next sign-in.
- Click the Reset Password button to initiate the password reset process.
- Monitor the progress and status of the action within the result window. Afterward, you have the option to export the action results, which include the newly set passwords for the selected users.
Reset Custom Password by Importing Users and Passwords from CSV
The above steps simplify the process of assigning auto-generated random passwords to multiple users. However, if you need to set custom passwords for each user individually, you can achieve this by providing user details and their respective passwords using a CSV file. This can be accomplished through the app’s another feature: Bulk Password Reset for Microsoft 365 Users using a CSV file
