Create Bulk Teams from a CSV file in Microsoft Teams

This tool simplifies the process of creating multiple teams in bulk from a CSV file without using PowerShell script.

Settings and Permissions supported with Bulk Team Creation

With this application, you can manage the following Teams associated settings and permissions for the new teams to be created from a CSV file.

  • Teams basic information (e.g., Team name, Description, Privacy).
  • Membership – You can specify the membership (Owners and Members) for each new team individually by providing comma-separated UPN values.
  • Channels – In addition to team membership, you can also supply names for channels (Standard channels only) to be created within the new team.
  • Template – You can set a custom base template type (e.g., educationClass (Education Class Team) and educationStaff (Staff Team) ) for the new team. If no value is provided, the team will be created with the standard template by default.
  • Settings – You can optionally update Team settings such as Member permissions, Guest permissions, and more.
  • Member permissions: AllowMemberCreateUpdateChannels, AllowMemberCreatePrivateChannels, AllowMemberDeleteChannels, AllowMemberAddRemoveApps, AllowMemberCreateUpdateRemoveConnectors, AllowMemberCreateUpdateRemoveTabs, AllowMemberDeleteMessages, and AllowMemberEditMessages.
  • Guest permissions: AllowGuestCreateUpdateChannels and AllowGuestDeleteChannels.
  • @mention settings: AllowTeamMentions and AllowChannelMentions.
  • Fun stuff settings: AllowGiphy, AllowStickersAndMemes, and AllowCustomMemes.

How to create a CSV file for Bulk Team Creation

  • Within the application’s user interface, you’ll find an option to download a sample CSV file. Utilize this option to obtain the sample CSV file.
  • Download the sample CSV file and proceed to substitute the sample team details with the information for the new teams you intend to create. Alternatively, you can adjust your existing CSV file to match the structure of the sample CSV data.

Please note: The sample CSV file may include only a limited number of Team setting fields. For a comprehensive list of all supported fields, you can refer to the section above. You can input the setting value as either True or False, and if you wish to set the default value, simply leave the field empty.

How to create Teams in bulk from a CSV file

Follow the below steps to create multiple teams in bulk using Office 365 Manager.

  • Launch the Office 365 Manager app‘s user interface console.
  • Navigate to the Teams page.
  • Within the Teams tab, click on Create and then select Create Bulk Teams using CSV.
  • Download this sample CSV file. Alternatively, within the “Create Bulk Teams” action’s UI, click the “Download sample CSV file” link to download a sample CSV file for team creation.
  • Replace the sample CSV file’s team details with the information for your new teams or modify your existing CSV file to match the format of the sample CSV file.
  • Click the Browse button to select your CSV file. This action will load the CSV file details into the grid.
  • Finally, click the Update button to initiate the team creation process. Monitor the progress and status of the action in the result window, and if needed, export the action results by clicking the Export button.
