Effectively managing the organizational hierarchy of employees stands as a crucial task in Microsoft 365. While there are various methods available to assign or reset the manager field, the challenge arises when administrators are tasked with assigning or configuring managers for multiple users in bulk.
Specmasoft’s Office 365 Manager is a desktop-based tool designed for Microsoft 365 user management. It allows you to efficiently manage users and their managers in bulk. You can update the manager for multiple users either by selecting them from the report grid or by importing the user details from a CSV file.
Steps to Update Manager for Multiple Users in Microsoft 365
Follow the steps below to identify the users for whom you want to assign or reset the manager, then proceed to update the manager for the selected users using this tool.
- Open the UI console of the Office 365 Manager application.
- Go to the Azure AD page.
- Inside the Office 365 Users tab, in the report picker, pick the report that matches with your requirements, like Users without Manager, Users based on Manager, Recently created users, or any other user report containing the users you intend to configure manager.
- Choose the necessary users from the report grid. If your intention is to pick users from a CSV file, you can skip this step.
- In the Update Users section, click the Set Manager button to open the Update Manager action UI.
- If you haven’t chosen any users from the report grid, the application will prompt you to select users using one of two options: Search and Select Users or Import Users From CSV.
- In the action interface, select the user whom you wish to set as the manager for the selected users.
- Click the Update button to start the manager update process.
Bulk Update Manager for Azure AD Users using a CSV file
The steps detailed above simplify the procedure of assigning the same manager to multiple users. However, if you need to assign different managers to various sets of users, you can achieve this by providing user details and their respective manager’s UPN through a CSV file. This functionality can be accomplished through another feature: Bulk Update User Information in Microsoft 365 using a CSV file.
